Camp presentation

Every year the year 5/6 from Makaraka School go on leadership camp in term 1 and the end of year camp in term 4.
In week 7 my class went on camp to lake karapiro and we stayed at  epworth camp  by the lake.
Camp was so much fun and I can do it again next year.

Kia hiwa Ra,Kia Hiwa Ra Production.

Kia hiwa Ra,Kia Hiwa Ra Production is on the 24th of september 2019 ,it starts at 6.30pm.

The production is about plastic in our seas and we have to clean it up because all the fish and sea animals will die and we need them. In the production I am an octopus for my class scene and for the lead role I am a local.

Chess torment.

On the 13th of september me and a few other people from my class went to the aurora chess competition at central school there were six games that I played and I won 3/6 games i had a lot of fun .

Regional science fair 2019

First I had to come up with the  topic that I should do my project on and I finally came up with it and my project was on boat hulls so I made my project and took it to the school science fair and I got through to the Regional science fair.

I was very happy and I keep getting luckier because at the Regional science fair I got silver for my project this year in 2019.

Last year for my group project I got silver, and last year for my project that I did by myself I go bronze. This year I won 10 dollars.

2019 school cross country.

First we got in the bus with the whole school to Brooke and Sam's house because that is where the cross country is.

When we got there we had something to eat and then practiced the course so we knew were to go.
Then the races started my little sister Pippa got to do it and she had not started school but she was four.
Pippa came third and then the other races started next was my turn.
I started doing some stretches and I was ready one of the teaches said" ready set go!! " and we all spinted off.
We jumped over the hay bales ran up the big hill at that stage I was coming fourth place but my legs were shattered and tired but I was in front of the fastest person.
I sprinted down the hill but some people over toke my because I went the wrong way and I ran past the finish line but if I did not go the wrong way I would of came fourth but I came sixt.

I was very happy with what place I came and after I got a sausage sizzle.

Ki o Rahi.

Kia or Rahi Is a very fun maori game and I love playing it but It is quite hard to play and there are lots  of rules.

It is a bit like ripper rugby and netball but it has a soft found ball and I have  played  three games before and In the three games I scored nine tries.

Thank you to matua damin for teaching us how to play ki o Rahi because it is very fun thank you matua damin.

My class has been reading about the whale rider book and below are some slides about the whale rider  It has been very fun reading it so far.After my class has finished the book we can watch the movie.

In friday programe we were looking and places in our school so they get recognized more, we chose the playground,pou and bike track but my group had the pou to do the dance with.It was super fun!

I have learned lots about chess from Dan and Noble I had so much fun learning new moves and checkmates like Castling,En passant,Italian ,ladder checkmate ect.

I always used to look forward to chess on Mondays and some Wednesdays chess is so fun!!.

Now I can beat my Dad but my Mum does not play chess but I can still play my Dad.

I am way better at chess than before the eastern Knights came.

Thank you Noble and Dan for taking you time to make us better at chess thanks.

The huia got extinct about 38 years ago.

People wanted the beaks and huia feathers off the bird.

Broches are the main thing that they killed huai for.

I fell sorry that they are extinct.

Liam for 2019

Hi my name is Liam and i am ten years old i live with my three sisters my parents and dog .  I love  sports my favorite sports are fishing,mountain biking and cricket.

I like going fishing with my grandad at the wharf and if I catch a fish I eat it for dinner.

 My dad likes to takes me mountain biking at fox street and teaching me mountain bike skills.

My dad teaches me how to spin bowl and to be better at batting and and bowling.

My favorite savoury food is kingfish,my favorite sweet food is cookies and cream ice cream.
 My favorite drink is fanta.

My favorite subjects are maths,p.e and art.

The deer that are in new zealand  are called the red deer,sambar deer,sika deer,javan rusa,fallow deer and the white tailed deer. Deer fur can be made into leather floor mats and blankets. Deer are a bit nocturnal they are even more nocturnal when it is hunting season but they still came out at day time.

Male deer grow new antlers each year.

Deer are herbivores fruit,leaves,nuts grass and plants.

The white tailed deer can run up to 48 kms per hour.

Deer can be sold for about 1,770 thousand dollars.

You can get 75 to 125 pounds in one deer.

In countdown venison costs about $23 dollars a kg.

Eel dissections

The year 5,6’s at makaraka school just did a sheep heart dissection because Mr Ray farmer could not be here to do a eel dissection so we practiced on sheep hearts.

Firstly we got a sheep heart,glasses,gloves,apron,tools and a bord then we started to feel the heart and pull it apart a bit to see where to cut the heart felt squishy like slime.

Then we started cutting and looked what was inside. We were looking for fat,muscles,veins.arteries and blood clots and we found all of those things.

After that we looked at bits of the sheep heart under the microscope we saw lots of things up close like veins and blood clots some blood clots were black because they had no oxygen in it.

It was cool dissecting the sheep heart and seeing what was inside it.

It was also a good practice for dissecting the eels and using the tools.
